Transitions from War started as a blog in 2015. Writing helped me articulate the thoughts and feelings long held private inside my mind. I didn’t think I would have that much to share, though it turned out the more I wrote the more I discovered inside me.
But writing only goes so far for me. I’ve listened to podcasts since 2006 and loved the free flow of conversation and ideas. Plus, conducting interviews in an audio or video format will almost always communicate better. The subtle nuances of communication like tone, inflection, cadence, and non-verbals represent tell us much more than the words alone. Plus, could I let years of my honed barracks shit-talking skills go to waste? That’s a negative, Ghost Rider.
I started the Transitions from War Podcast in early 2018 with my friend and fellow Marine, Rich Dreyling, to deepen the conversation of what it means to pursue a healthy Mind, Body, and Spirit. Rich and I continued the dialogue until he moved to Estonia to pursue a graduate degree. Since then the show has focused on interviewing inspiring veterans and subject-matter experts in the fields of health and wellness.
